Step 04 · Confirmation

One name at a time, all the way to the end of the list.

This is the slowest part of the product and the reason it exists. Applying a design to a hundred and twenty guests takes one click. Getting past this screen takes a hundred and twenty decisions, and there is no control anywhere that makes it fewer.

Walk through it

Five names, five decisions.

Exactly what the step looks like, with five entries of the kind that actually turn up in a list. Tab and Enter get through the whole thing without a mouse.

Or ask them

Quick one for the place cards — do you write your name with the diaeresis on the e? Want to get it right rather than guess.

When you do not know, and would rather not guess.

Prompt 03 · titles and name orderWhat you type

One guest's surname comes first in her own language, and another uses a title I'm not sure how to abbreviate. I don't want to get either wrong.

What comes back, field by field
observed_pattern
How the name appears in your list, quoted back unchanged.
common_conventions[]
The forms commonly used in that situation, listed side by side. Not ranked, not scored, and none marked as the correct one.
what_to_ask
One sentence you can send to the person as it is, written to be easy to answer.
card_preview[]
Each convention set on the actual card, at the actual size, so the choice is visual rather than theoretical.
Fixed under every response of this kind: only the person themselves knows how they write their name. We can show you the options, not the answer.
A panel showing a copyable message asking a guest how they would like their name written
The message is written to be sendable as it is. Most people answer within the hour, which is faster than any model can guess correctly.
The export gate

An export cannot be generated while a single guest is unconfirmed.

This is not a warning in the interface that a determined person could click past. The export request itself is refused unless every guest record in the event carries a confirmation, and the refusal happens on the server where the file would be made.

  • Every guest confirmed

One record per guest, each carrying who confirmed it and when.

  • No record left flagged

Anything still marked needs confirmation or incomplete stops the export.

  • Fonts declared

Every typeface in the design has a name and a licence type recorded.

  • Specification intact

Bleed 3 mm, safe margin 5 mm and 300 dpi, unmodified.

  • Dietary data consistent

No dietary value can exist on an event where that field is switched off.

Any one of these failing blocks the file. There is no override and no support request that lifts it.

Next: the silent loop that runs at the door.
